About Us

Our Mission

New Jersey Protective Moms (NJPM) is a 501(c) (3) grassroots organization founded by two Protective Moms after facing tremendous adversity in Family Court. Their shared experience, unbreakable bond and passion to help others became the inspiration behind New Jersey Protective Moms.

The Family Court system is often misused by domestic abuse perpetrators and high-conflict litigants. The damage of this harmful legal strategy is devastating and the repercussions are severe and far-reaching. 

Through a multi-prong approach of advocacy, awareness, collaboration and education, our mission is to improve New Jersey's Family Court system. New Jersey Protective Moms believes that child safety should be the top priority of Family Court. NJPM is dedicated to creating workable solutions that address the systemic problems currently plaguing New jersey's Family Courts.

Our goal is clear; to create a trauma informed, research-based Family Court system in New Jersey that prioritizes child safety above all.

Our Why

The Family Court system is commonly misused by domestic abuse perpetrators. The manipulation of Family Court is a systemic problem that undermines responses to family violence and deeply impacts adult and child survivors in many ways. Abusers use Family Court proceedings as an effective way to bolster their power and control their familial victims. Unfortunately, there is rarely any consequence for perpetrators who leverage this tactic.

The successful manipulation of Family Court by an abuser reinforces and legitimizes their power over their victims. Continued abuse via repeated litigation also depletes the victim's finances and wastes public resources. As a result, adult and child survivors lose trust in the system that was built to protect them. 

Research shows that the U.S. Family Court system is failing Protective Mothers and their children by prioritizing the rights of abusive fathers over child safety. Children are regularly placed in danger via Court ordered unsupervised parenting time with their abusive parent. Reports of abuse by mothers are disproportionately rejected and protective moms are often punished by way of punitive Court orders.

New Jersey Protective Moms strives to provide workable solutions that address the Family Court policies and procedures in need of reform through advocacy, awareness, collaboration and education.
